Glass Art

Below are some examples of my art. This is only a small sample of the more recent work I have been doing with fused glass. More pictures of my beading and metalwork will be added as I get them. If you see something you like email me for a price quote. Chances are I can make a similar piece for you. I can also make any piece with a custom color scheme that you request.

This 12 inch bowl was made by arranging frit (ground up glass) and stringer (thin rods of glass made by pulling molten glass out of a hole in the bottom of the kiln into curled pieces) on a clear glass base. Pre-fired discs of dichroic glass give the added shine to the center of the flowers.

Dichroic glass has a special coating of metals and minerals that are applied to the hot glass sheets in a vacuum. It was originally made for the space program, but now is available to artists.

The pattern in this bowl was made by arranging pieces of colored glass and frit to the clear glass base. Pieces of dichroic glass were also added to give it a spark that changes colors when viewed from different angles.

The base of this plate is clear glass. Finely ground up glass was added around the edge to give a soft color. Coarsely ground glass was sprinked in the center to add larger random spots of color. Pieces of dichroic glass were added to the coarse glass to give it a hint of metallic glitz. Making the plate is a two step process: first melting the frit and making a flat tile in the kiln, and second, slumping the tile in a plate mold during the second kiln firing.

This piece started out as a piece of clear glass. Onto it I added pieces of stringer and frit. The stringer is a thin rod of glass about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch in diameter. The frit is ground up glass. It is heated in the kiln twice; first to melt the colored glass added on top and then a second time so it could be shaped into a bowl.
